What it is like here
Malaysia runs dozens of British- and American-curriculum international schools around Kuala Lumpur and Penang at a small fraction of what the same curriculum costs in the UK or Singapore. English is widely spoken, violent crime is low, and a parent can accompany a child on a long-term pass. The trade-off: placement into top-tier universities is a notch below the traditional destinations, so it shines for K–12 more than for the final degree.
How the process works
Pick the school first — it decides the price and the paperwork
A place is offered before any visa moves, and the school files the pass with the Student Pass Unit for its own state rather than through the higher-education agency. Entry costs are separate from tuition and are not small: at the two schools priced on this page, application is RM 1,300 to RM 1,500, registration RM 10,000 to RM 20,000, and a deposit of RM 10,000 or one term.
A parent applies separately, and pays separately
The child gets a student pass at RM 60. The accompanying parent gets a social visit pass, filed with its own form and proof of financial capability and twelve months of health insurance, at RM 90. They are two applications on two documents, and the parent’s one is what makes the arrangement work.
Renew every year, both of you
Neither pass is granted for the length of schooling. Both are annual, and the parent’s is tied to the child’s remaining a student in good standing, so a school change is a visa event as well as an admissions one.
