The route runs through employment or the points-based residence status, then permanent residence after qualifying years. Mid-band: the routes work and lead somewhere definite, but they are built around employment and language, not around arriving with means.

Pathoff healthcare rubric (the Pathoff method, section 13-2), band "Covered, and it covers everything": Enrolment in the national health insurance is mandatory for foreign residents after six months and immediate for holders of a residence status or employees, contributions are income-linked, and patients reach specialists without a referral. Just below Germany and Japan for the co-payment and for the six-month wait that applies to everyone else.

What it is like here

Everyone resident more than six months joins the national health insurance, contributions are income-linked, and you can walk into a specialist without a referral — on access this is one of the strongest systems on the site. Getting to stay is the hard part: there is no retirement or passive-income status, and the residence route runs through a points test built for skilled workers.
