Individual published figures for Al Akhawayn University, the English-medium private flagship: MAD 40,000–70,000 a year for most undergraduate programmes, charged per credit. Re-read attempted and not finished: Al Akhawayn publishes an international rate — MAD 3,360 a credit against MAD 2,100 for Moroccans, at a normal load of 15 to 17 credits a semester — but it is a private university, and no Moroccan public university publishes what a self-funding foreign student pays. The gap between the two sectors is the whole answer here, so one half of it is not enough.

Public universities charge a nominal registration fee and teach in French and Arabic. This prices the route open to someone arriving without those languages.

Pathoff judgement directed by evidence, not computed from it: the country’s position comes from the World Bank household consumption price level for 2024 (0.406 of the United States, CC BY 4.0 — the ICP benchmark carried forward annually by the World Bank’s own method); the US reference budget is ours. See the Pathoff method, section 12.

EducationWorks across the francophone world

Pathoff education rubric (the Pathoff method, section 9-1), degree band "Locally solid, externally unknown": The degree follows the French model and is accepted across francophone Africa and, with assessment, in France. At the top of the band; outside that bloc no Moroccan institution is a name.

Work after studyNo post-study route, and a labour-market test

Pathoff outcome rubric (the Pathoff method, section 10-2), degree outcome band "A route you cannot plan around": Graduation gives no period to stay. A work permit requires the employer to obtain an attestation that no Moroccan candidate was available, which makes the outcome turn on the state of the local labour market rather than on the graduate.

What it is like here

Moroccan higher education follows the French model and its qualifications are recognised across the francophone world, which is a real bloc. The English-medium private flagship charges a few thousand a year and the public universities charge almost nothing. Afterwards there is no post-study route, and a work permit requires proof that no Moroccan could do the job.

How the process works

1

Establish the language of instruction

One private university teaches in English; the rest is French and Arabic.

Timing not confirmed
2

Student visa, then a residence card

Issued on the letter of admission and registered after arrival.

2–4 months
