Pathoff judgement directed by evidence, not computed from it: the country’s position comes from the World Bank household consumption price level for 2024 (0.406 of the United States, CC BY 4.0 — the ICP benchmark carried forward annually by the World Bank’s own method); the US reference budget is ours. See the Pathoff method, section 12.

Guardian visaA parent needs a residence card of their own

Pathoff outcome rubric (the Pathoff method, section 10-1), early outcome band "Partial or conditional access": No status attaches to being a parent, but the residence card is granted on a stated purpose that includes living on one’s own means, so a parent can hold one. At the foot of the band because the assessment is discretionary and no published income threshold could be confirmed.

What it is like here

Morocco is the highest-ranked North African country on the peace index, an hour or three from most of Western Europe, and costs about 40% of what France does. Schooling runs through a dense French-curriculum network and an American school in Casablanca. The language is the real condition: French, not English, is what makes daily life work.

How the process works

1

A parent obtains a carte de séjour

Applied for after arrival, on a stated purpose, and renewed annually at first.

2–4 months
2

Choose between the French network and the American school

It decides the language of instruction and the price by a wide margin.

3–6 months

Where families cluster

Casablanca
The American school, the business community and the hospitals
Rabat
Diplomatic, calmer, a strong French-curriculum network
Marrakesh
The established foreign-resident city, and the most seasonal
