Pathoff healthcare rubric (the Pathoff method, section 13-2), band "You buy your own, and it is affordable": The public insurance scheme is built around Jordanians in employment, so a foreign resident uses the private sector — which is quick, affordable, and strong enough that Jordan is the leading medical destination in the Arab world. At the very top of the band; what keeps it out of the band above is access to the public system, not the standard of care, because serious treatment is done here rather than abroad.

What it is like here

Jordan is one of the better places in this part of the world to be ill: its private hospitals draw patients from across the Middle East and North Africa, and they are affordable by any Western measure. It is politically steady, English carries you in Amman, and it costs less than half of the Gulf. What it lacks is a route in for someone arriving on income — and it is one of the most water-scarce countries on earth.
