What it is like here
Living costs are well under the Western European level, the country is one of the safest measured, and permanent residence follows five years with only an A1 language exam. The catch is health cover: a third-country national who is not employed cannot join public insurance and must buy comprehensive cover from a single designated insurer until permanent residence arrives.
How the process works
Pick a purpose the law recognises
Business (živnostenský list) is the usual route for someone without an employer.
Buy the mandated comprehensive health insurance
Required for long-term stays and, in practice, from the designated provider.
Five years, then permanent residence
An A1 Czech exam is required. Permanent residence brings public health insurance with it.
