A comparison of prices, not a budget: it says what things cost here against the United States, not what a month will cost you. Compared at country level, so capital cities and large metros run higher. The price level prices the basket residents buy, and a foreign renter cannot reach the cheap end of local housing — poorer countries may still sit too low here.

World Bank, 2024, CC BY 4.0: the PPP conversion factor for household consumption is 328.0466 local currency units per international dollar, against an official exchange rate of 515.1098 to the US dollar. Their ratio, 0.637, is the price level against the United States, whose own ratio is 1 by construction. Both figures are theirs; the division is ours. See the Pathoff method, section 12.

보호자 비자A parent qualifies on a modest pension

Pathoff outcome rubric (the Pathoff method, section 10-1), early outcome band "Partial or conditional access": No guardian status, but the pensionado route grants renewable residence to a parent with a lifetime pension of US$1,000 a month, dependants included, and a couple can qualify on one pension. At the top of the band because the threshold is the lowest published anywhere here.

The route requires the income to be deposited in a Costa Rican bank — US$12,000 a year for pensionado — and enrolment in the CAJA social security system is a condition of holding the residence card at all.

여기는 어떤 곳인가

Costa Rica has the lowest published means threshold on this site — a pension of US$1,000 a month qualifies a family — in a country that abolished its army and sits second in its region for peacefulness. The counterweight is what the schooling costs: the established international schools in the Central Valley charge over twenty thousand dollars a year, which is more than the residence route asks you to have.
