Single student, all in. Compared at country level, so capital cities and large metros run higher. The price level behind it prices the basket residents buy, and a foreign renter cannot reach the cheap end of local housing — poorer countries may still sit too low here.

Research impact 6th percentile globally — median of 129 ranked universities (CWTS Leiden Open Edition 2025). Research output, not teaching quality; it informs the band, it does not set the score. Read the sample as well as the number: 129 Indonesian universities clear the publication threshold, far more than any other country on this site outside the largest systems, and a median across that many institutions sits much lower than a median across the one or two that enter from a smaller country. It is a statement about sample depth, not about what a student is taught.

Universitas Indonesia publishes fees by faculty. Its communication programme charges international students a UKT of Rp 28,000,000 with a one-off institutional development fee of Rp 27,000,000; its economics faculty charges foreign nationals Rp 41,000,000 on the international undergraduate programme. UKT is a per-semester charge, so two semesters put annual tuition at roughly Rp 56–82 million, or $3,170–4,640 at Rp 17,657 to the dollar. Re-read attempted and not finished: Universitas Indonesia publishes its complete fee schedule as a ten-megabyte scanned PDF with no text in it, and the faculty pages that do carry figures — IDR 41,000,000 at economics and business, IDR 28,000,000 at criminology — do not say whether the amount covers a semester or a year, which is the one thing that cannot be guessed at. ITB’s international admission page carries no figures at all.

Pathoff judgement directed by evidence, not computed from it: the country’s position comes from the World Bank household consumption price level for 2024 (0.322 of the United States, CC BY 4.0 — the ICP benchmark carried forward annually by the World Bank’s own method); the US reference budget is ours. See the Pathoff method, section 12.

교육Works across ASEAN

Pathoff education rubric (the Pathoff method, section 9-1), degree band "Locally solid, externally unknown": The leading Jakarta and Bandung universities are recognised across Southeast Asia and their graduates move within the region freely. At the top of the band; outside ASEAN the qualification is assessed rather than assumed. Foreign campuses now operating in Jakarta award their home institution’s degree, which under the Pathoff method, section 9-1 is not an Indonesian degree and does not count here.

Pathoff outcome rubric (the Pathoff method, section 10-2), degree outcome band "A route that needs an employer": Graduation confers no period to stay; employment requires an employer-held work plan and permit, restricted to occupations on a published list and usually conditioned on training an Indonesian counterpart. At the foot of the band because the occupation list, not the graduate, decides whether a route exists at all.

Indonesia’s flagship universities publish what an international student pays, faculty by faculty, and it comes to a few thousand dollars a year. The degree works across ASEAN. Two things to know: teaching outside the international classes is in Indonesian, and the foreign campuses arriving in Jakarta award their home university’s degree, which is a different product from an Indonesian one.

절차는 이렇습니다

1

Apply to an international class, or learn Indonesian

The international undergraduate programmes teach in English; the rest do not.

4–8 months
2

Student permit, sponsored by the university

Issued on the letter of acceptance and renewed annually.

2–4 months
3

Check the occupation list before choosing a subject

It decides whether working here afterwards is possible at all.

소요 기간 미확인

유학생이 가는 곳

Jakarta / Depok
The flagship university and nearly all the graduate employers
Bandung
The technical institute, cooler and cheaper
Yogyakarta
