Single student, all in — deliberately the same figure as the degree page. It is the same person living the same way; only the training differs. Compared at country level, so capital cities and large metros run higher. The price level behind it prices the basket residents buy, and a foreign renter cannot reach the cheap end of local housing — poorer countries may still sit too low here.

Pathoff judgement directed by evidence, not computed from it: the country’s position comes from the World Bank household consumption price level for 2024 (0.605 of the United States, CC BY 4.0 — the ICP benchmark carried forward annually by the World Bank’s own method); the US reference budget is ours. See the Pathoff method, section 12.

What it is like here

Portugal has real depth in hospitality, wine and design training tied to industries that actually employ people there, and it is cheap by Western European standards. The trade-off is scale: the number of internationally recognised specialist schools is small compared with Italy or France, so the choice is narrow.

How the process works

1

Confirm the qualification is recognised

Check the course sits in the national qualifications framework if you intend to work on it.

Timing not confirmed
2

Study visa

Same route as a degree for courses above a minimum duration.

1–3 months

Where the training is

Design and wine, cheaper than Lisbon
