Single student, all in — deliberately the same figure as the degree page. It is the same person living the same way; only the training differs. Compared at country level, so capital cities and large metros run higher. The price level behind it prices the basket residents buy, and a foreign renter cannot reach the cheap end of local housing — poorer countries may still sit too low here.

Tuition~$5.7–28k/yr

Istituto Marangoni publishes 2025-26 three-year undergraduate fees of about €17,600–24,400 a year in Milan depending on programme; ALMA, the Italian cookery school, publishes course fees from about €4,900 for short programmes to €28,150 for the full Italian Cuisine Diploma. This figure prices the private specialist institutes, which is what a foreign student is buying.

Pathoff judgement directed by evidence, not computed from it: the country’s position comes from the World Bank household consumption price level for 2024 (0.677 of the United States, CC BY 4.0 — the ICP benchmark carried forward annually by the World Bank’s own method); the US reference budget is ours. See the Pathoff method, section 12.

Field reputationA name in fashion, design and food

Pathoff education rubric (the Pathoff method, section 9-2), special band "Internationally credible": In fashion, design and cookery the Milan and Parma institutions are known to employers worldwide and their graduates are recruited internationally. At the top of the band; short of the one above because the reputation belongs to the industry and the city as much as to any one school.

Industry accessThe qualification gives you nothing; an employer might

Pathoff outcome rubric (the Pathoff method, section 10-3), special outcome band "A route that needs an employer": Judged on its own and it lands below the degree route, because the twelve-month job-search permit follows a recognised degree and most specialist institute programmes are not one. Mid-band: employment is possible with a sponsor, but the sponsor comes first.

What it is like here

This is the purpose Italy is built for. Milan is the fashion and design industry, not just a school market, and the cookery institutes sit inside the food economy they train for. Employers in those fields know the schools by name. What follows graduation is the weak part: no route belongs to the qualification, so it comes down to an employer and a quota.

How the process works

1

Check whether the programme confers a recognised title

It decides whether the twelve-month job-search permit is available afterwards.

Timing not confirmed
2

Pre-enrol through Universitaly, then the study visa

Private institutes still route non-EU students through the state portal.

Where the training is

Milan
Fashion and design, and the companies that hire from the schools
Parma / Emilia-Romagna
The food industry and its cookery institutes
Florence
Restoration, leather, and the art schools
