Two schedules on two different bases were read as if they were one. Putting them on the same basis was right and taking a middle of them was not: what the two universities publish is four semester rates and two whole-degree totals, and the six of them are on the page now.

Two universities international students realistically apply to, and they do not publish on the same basis. Chulalongkorn prices per semester by faculty group — 76,000 for arts, humanities and social sciences, 79,500 for physical sciences, 82,700 and 106,000 for the two life-science groups. Mahidol University International College prices whole degrees, THB 1,211,400 for a Bachelor of Arts up to 1,621,620 for creative technology, and those two are the ends of its published range. The previous figure was THB 236,625 a year, which was Chulalongkorn’s median doubled into a year, Mahidol’s median divided by four, and then a median of those two. Three arithmetic steps and no university charges the result. The six rows below are each converted once, by the same function, and the Mahidol pair are marked derived because a total across four years is not a price for any one of them.

Pathoff education rubric (the Pathoff method, section 9-1), degree band "Locally solid, externally unknown": Chulalongkorn and Mahidol carry real weight inside Southeast Asia, and the degree works well in the Thai labour market. Outside the region it needs a credential assessment rather than a name. High in the band for those two institutions.

Pathoff outcome rubric (the Pathoff method, section 10-2), degree outcome band "A route that needs an employer": Graduation confers no period to stay and look for work. Employment requires an employer to obtain a work permit, and the Reserved-Occupations Regulation issued under the 2017 royal decree bars foreigners from a defined list of jobs. Low in the band for the absence of any grace period.

What it is like here

Chulalongkorn and Mahidol run credible English-taught programmes at a few thousand dollars a year, in a country where a student’s living costs are among the lowest anywhere on this site. The problem is afterwards: Thailand has no post-study work route at all, work requires an employer to obtain a permit, and a reserved-occupations regulation closes a defined list of jobs to foreigners outright.
