Family of three, all in, excluding fees. Compared at country level, so capital cities and large metros run higher. The price level behind it prices the basket residents buy, and a foreign renter cannot reach the cheap end of local housing — poorer countries may still sit too low here.

A parent qualifies on work, property or age

Mid-table globally and sixth in its region; street crime is very low and the score is carried by militarisation and regional conflict

Tuition~$19k/yr

Individual published ranges for Dubai, where the Knowledge and Human Development Authority regulates and publishes school fees: British curriculum roughly AED 25,000–110,000 a year, American AED 30,000–105,000, IB AED 47,000–130,000, and Indian curriculum AED 4,000–35,000. KHDA confirmed a fee freeze for 2026-27.

Pathoff judgement directed by evidence, not computed from it: the country’s position comes from the World Bank household consumption price level for 2024 (0.698 of the United States, CC BY 4.0 — the ICP benchmark carried forward annually by the World Bank’s own method); the US reference budget is ours. See the Pathoff method, section 12.

Pathoff outcome rubric (the Pathoff method, section 10-1), early outcome band "Partial or conditional access": No status attaches to being the parent of a school-age child, but a parent holding an employment residence, a golden visa or — from 55 — the retirement visa sponsors the family. Mid-band because each of those has a gate: a job, a large property, or an age most parents of schoolchildren have not reached.

What it is like here

Almost everyone in Dubai is a foreigner, so nothing about arriving is unusual: schooling is in English, the regulator publishes every school’s fees and froze them for 2026-27, and a child fits in immediately. What it costs is the point — the international-school market runs from AED 25,000 to AED 130,000 — and a parent still has to hold a work, investment or retirement visa of their own.

How the process works

1

A parent secures a residence visa

Employment, golden visa or retirement. Family sponsorship follows from it.

2–8 weeks
2

Check the school on the regulator’s site

The regulator publishes each school’s inspection rating and fee, which is rare and useful.
