TuitionNo data yet

No figure recorded. At tier 1 the government publishes no schedule for private or international schools; at tier 2 Westwood International School, the country’s only full IB school, publishes none and Maru-a-Pula’s own fee document could not be read; at tier 3 the aggregators disagree with each other by a factor of several, quoting both "BWP 70,000–200,000 a year" and "$14,317–24,823 per term" for the same school. See the Pathoff method, section 14-5.

Pathoff judgement directed by evidence, not computed from it: the country’s position comes from the World Bank household consumption price level for 2024 (0.392 of the United States, CC BY 4.0 — the ICP benchmark carried forward annually by the World Bank’s own method); the US reference budget is ours. See the Pathoff method, section 12.

Pathoff outcome rubric (the Pathoff method, section 10-1), early outcome band "A guardian must be arranged": Residence permits are issued for employment, investment, study or dependency, and none of those categories is the parent of a school-age child. No income or retirement route is published. At the top of the band because the work and investor routes are straightforward for someone who qualifies for them.

What it is like here

Botswana is the highest-ranked African country on the peace index, has run a stable multi-party democracy on diamond revenue since independence, and teaches in English throughout. It is also the most opaque country on this site for a family trying to plan a budget: neither international school in Gaborone publishes a fee schedule, so this page carries no figure rather than a guess.

How the process works

1

Secure the parent’s permit first

Employment or investment; there is no guardian category and no income route.

4–12 months
2

Ask the school for its fee schedule in writing

Neither Gaborone international school publishes one, and the aggregators contradict each other.

Timing not confirmed

Where families cluster

Gaborone
Both international schools, the hospitals, and an hour from Johannesburg by air
Francistown
The second city, cheaper, no international school
