Tuition~$7.6k/yr

Individual published figures for the New South Wales public vocational provider: international tuition from about AUD 11,500 for vocational courses, rising steeply for higher education programmes, charged per subject each semester. The figure is now converted: it was being carried at 11,500 US dollars, which is the Australian figure read as though the two currencies were at par. At the World Bank 2024 rate of AUD 1.5154 to the dollar it is USD 7,600.

Pathoff judgement directed by evidence, not computed from it: the country’s position comes from the World Bank household consumption price level for 2024 (0.942 of the United States, CC BY 4.0 — the ICP benchmark carried forward annually by the World Bank’s own method); the US reference budget is ours. See the Pathoff method, section 12.

Field reputationInternationally credible

Pathoff education rubric (the Pathoff method, section 9-2), special band "Internationally credible": Australian trade, hospitality and mining-related qualifications are recognised beyond the region and the regulatory framework behind them is taken seriously. Mid-band because the reputation belongs to the framework rather than to schools the industry names, and parts of the private sector have damaged it.

Pathoff outcome rubric (the Pathoff method, section 10-3), special outcome band "A reliable route into the trade": Judged on its own. The post-vocational stream of the graduate visa gives open work rights without an employer, which is more than most countries give a vocational graduate. At the foot of the band because it runs eighteen months rather than two years and carries the same age ceiling of 35.

The age ceiling fell from 50 to 35 on 1 July 2024 and applies to this stream with no research-degree exception.

What it is like here

The graduate visa has a vocational stream, so trade and diploma graduates get open work rights rather than needing an employer — better than most of Europe manages. It is shorter than the degree stream and carries the same age ceiling of thirty-five, and the sector has been under sustained regulatory scrutiny for providers that sold courses as migration products.

How the process works

1

Choose a provider with a record, not a price

The sector has had providers whose courses were migration products; the regulator has been closing them.

Timing not confirmed
2

Student visa with health cover

Same conditions as a degree, including cover for the full stay.
